Peanuts Curry

Ingredients:
¾ cup Peanuts
1 tsp Ghee
½ tsp Cumin seeds
4 tbsp Peanuts Powder
½ cup Water
2 Kokum
2 to 3 Green Chilies
1 tsp Jaggery
Salt to taste

Method:
1) Soak peanuts in water for 5-6 hours. Pressure cook to 3 whistles or until tender.
2) Peanuts powder – roast ½ cup peanuts. Peel and grind coarsely.
3) Put 4 tbsp Peanuts powder and ½ cup water in a grinder. Grind for 30 seconds. This mixture gives nice thick gravy.
4) Heat 1 tsp Ghee, add Cumin seeds and chopped green chilies. Sauté for 5 seconds. Add Peanuts powder mixture. Add little water if needed. Add Kokum, salt and Jaggery. Bring it to boil. Then put cooked Peanuts and boil for couple of minutes on medium heat.

  4. hey vaidehi... now i got it that its kokum.... but can u tell me anything else i can substitute kokum with?? maybe tamrind? and how much... please advice..

    I love this usal... used to relish at it.. in panshikhar's dadar, mumbai..:D

    how are u.. after a long time..
    actually you can substitute kokum with Tamarind, but you know.. sourness of kokum is more suitable for this recipe..and if you buy kokum from Indian store it wont get wasted, you can use it in any Dal instead of Tamarind.
