Nivegrya in Marathi
Time: 15 to 20 minutes
Yield: 10 to 12 medium pcs
During ganpati festival, ukadiche modak is a must sweet in Maharashtra. Rice flour ukad itself doesn't have any taste. After making modak, if there is any ukad left, nivagrya can be made. It prevents wastage of food and we get a delicious side dish made from leftover ukad.
Some people love this dish so much that they intentionally make more rice flour ukad so that they can enjoy this yummy dish.
Ingredients:
1 cup rice flour Ukad
2 tsp green chili paste
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
Salt to taste
Method:
1) Add coarse chili paste, cumin seeds and salt to ukad and knead well. Divide into small lemon sized balls. Flatten them.
2) Grease the steam cooker stand well with oil (you may use Idli stand too). Arramge the flatten ukad, each portion separately.
3) Boil water in the steamer. Once water starts boiling, place the stand inside. Cover and steam cook for 10-12 minutes. Then turn off the heat.
4) Open the steamer after 5 minutes. Serve Nivegrya hot.
