Vangi Bhat Masala in Marathi
Time: 15 minutes
Yield: 4 to 5 tbsp
Ingredients:
1 tbsp chana dal
1 tbsp urad dal
2 tsp coriander seeds
2 tbsp roasted grated coconut (dry)
5-6 black pepper
2-3 dry red chilies (remove seeds)
1 inch cinnamon stick
1 or 2 petals of star anise (1 or 2 pieces of a star anise. It has very strong flavour so do not use too much)
1 tsp oil
Method:
1) Heat oil into a small kadai. Add chana dal and roast over medium heat till color changes to light brown. Remove.
2) In the remaining oil saute urad dal till light pink in color. Remove.
3) Add coriander seeds and black pepper corn. Saute over low heat for a minute. Remove. Turn off the heat. Add chilies and just warm them.
4) Let the ingredients cool down.
5) First, grind chana dal, urad dal, coriander seeds, black pepper, red chillies and cinnamon stick. Then add coconut and grind again.
Masala can be added to any spiced rice specially vangi bhat.

Looks yummy. I make Vangi bhat at least once in 2 weeks but usually make it with Goda masala only. Will try this recipe next week . Thanks for the recipe
