Tilachya Shenga in Marathi
Time: 25-30 minutes
serves: 2 to 3
Ingredients:
2 to 3 drumsticks
1/4 cup white sesame seeds
1/4 cup coarse powder of roasted peanuts
2 to 3 tbsp dry coconut (grated)
For tempering: 2-3 tsp oil, 2 pinches mustards seeds, 2-3 pinches hing, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1/4 tsp red chili powder and curry leaves
1 tsp goda masala
1 tbsp grated jaggery (you may add more or less according to your taste)
1 tsp tamarind pulp
Salt to taste
Method:
1) Roast sesame seeds and coconut separately. Grind roasted sesame seeds, roasted coconut and peanuts powder together.
2) Cut drumsticks into 3 inch long pieces. Steam cook in microwaves.
3) Heat oil into a kadai. Add mustard seeds, hing, turmeric powder red chili powder and curry leaves. Add ground mixture and saute over medium heat. Add water and make thin.
4) Add tamarind pulp, salt and steamed drumstick pieces. Simmer for 4 minutes. Add jaggery and simmer for 2 minutes.
Serve hot with white rice or millet roti.
Tip:
1) Instead of drumsticks, deep fried pieces of eggplant can be used.
