Masala Wada in Marathi

Time: 25 Minutes (Excluding soaking time)
Yield: 15 to 18 medium vada


Ingredients:
1 cup Chana dal
5 to 6 green chilies
8 to 10 garlic cloves
1 inch ginger piece
10 to 15 curry leaves
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp sesame seeds
1/2 cup cilantro, finely chopped
Approx 1 cup cooking oil
Salt to taste


Method:
1) Wash and soak chana dal in water for 2 to 3 hours. Then Put into a colander to drain all the water.
2) Add green chilies, garlic, ginger, curry leaves and 1 tsp salt into a mixie. Grind well. Then add some dal and pulse till you get coarse mixture.
3) Grind remaining dal into batches. Do not make a fine paste. We need coarse mixture with some whole dal in between.
4) Transfer this mixture to a bowl. Add chopped cilantro, turmeric, cumin seeds, and little salt (only if required). Mix well.
5) Heat oil into a kadai. Grease a plastic sheet. take lemon sized portion of the mixture. Flatten it on plastic sheet. Carefully leave it in hot oil. Deep fry over medium heat.
Serve hot with green chutney or tamarind chutney.

Tip:
1)  Add 1 medium chopped onion for a different flavor.
