Milk Powder Peda in Marathi

Time: 15 minutes
Makes: 20 small pedas

Ingredients:
1 cup Milk powder
1/2 cup Condensed milk
2 tsp pure ghee
1/2 tsp cardamom powder

Method:
1) Mix milk powder, condensed milk and pure ghee into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds. Stir and microwave for 1 minute.
2) Take the bowl out. Stir for a minute. Microwave for 30 seconds twice. Stir well each time.
3) Mixture should become thick by now. However, if you think it needs to be little thick, microwave for 30 seconds. Add cardamom powder and mix well.
4) Let the mixture cool down. Once mixture becomes handleable, make pedas.

Tips:
1) These pedas become slightly chewy in first few hours. However, they harden next day. Try them on a small quantity first.
2) You may add essence like butterscotch, vanilla, saffron etc.
3) 1/2 cup Cashew powder or almond powder can be substituted for 1/2 cup milk powder.

Thanks for posting these pedha recipes before Ganesh chaturthi!
    A few qs -
    1. You haven't mentioned sugar in this recipe. Did you use sweetened condensed milk?

    2. What brand of milk powder did you use? Is Coffee-Mate (in the US) good for this recipe?

    3. How different do these pedhas taste from our regular khavyache pedhe?

  8. Hi Shal

Very sorry that I couldn't reply you on time.
    1) I have used sweetened condensed milk. I used Nestle Brand Condensed milk (Other brands Carnation, Eagle Brand, Great Value)
    2) I am not sure if coffee mate works for this recipe. You can buy skimmed milk powder at any supermarket (try walmart or nearest grocery store)
    3) There won't be any comparison between regular khava peda and milk powder peda because khava peda tastes amazing. Milk powder pedas doesn't have grainy texture like regular peda. However, they taste good, though.

  9. Hi Neeta

I don't think you can make milk powder peda in OTG.
Other than microwave the option remains is cooking in the pan (which is quite risky)
There is a big risk of burning milk powder. (Milk powder tends to burn quickly). The mixture of condensed milk and milk powder is very gooey and sticky. It can stick to the pan easily.

  10. Hi,

Thanks for the recipe. I have accidently bought a small can of evaporated milk. Can this be substituted for condensed milk?
    Thanks!

    1. Hello

Condensed milk is much thicker than evaporated milk. It may cause some issue regarding consistency.
If you want to use the evaporated milk, you may add it to basundi, or Kulfi etc.
